Who is SmartHOTEL?

A long, long time ago, when the internet was still called a ‘hype’, there were two men with one mission.. to help the hospitality industry automate daily business. It all started 20 years ago when Frank and Pitrik entered the Hospitality market, selling POS (point of sales) for restaurants.

With the rise of online booking channels, our customer restaurants started selling their free spaces as guestrooms. That is when the first SmartPMS was created!

Online Travel Agencies became a big hit, and SmartHOTEL customers began wondering if they could automate reservation delivery directly into their PMS, et voilà, the Smart Channel Manager was born!

Nowadays, SmartHOTEL helps Hoteliers worldwide to find their way through the exciting and confusing world of online distribution. From our office based in the Netherlands, our team serves over 1500 hotels by providing channel management and tailored online distribution solutions.

This is Holacracy.

We love change, being flexible and dynamic all day. We mix ‘Scrum’ methodology with ‘Holacracy’ principles which provides freedom and clarity on responsibilities to all roles within the team.

A few years ago, we decided to say goodbye to management forever. We wanted to be able to move as fast as possible as a company, to stay innovative in our solutions without being slowed down by a hierarchic management structure.

‘Holacracy’ replaces the function of managers making use of processes that are embedded in the SmartHOTEL teams that result in distributed accountabilities, accountabilities into roles, and roles into circles. Everyone in a team is involved in the process of clarifying responsibilities — this instead of a manager figuring out who’s responsible for what based on hierarchy.
